3 Protein Packed Unicorn Recipes
2017 has been the year of the rainbow-colored unicorn food trend, from Starbucks and it's crazy layered shake to health-conscious bloggers instagramming rainbow-coloured smoothie bowls. We’re jumping on the bandwagon to add some sparkle to your day with 3 recipes for picture-perfect unicorn treats at home. Of course, we gave them a Neat twist – using healthy ingredients and a boost of protein!
Unicorn Protein Shake
The Unicorn Shake has captured the millennial imagination and made it the drink of choice for Instagram feeds. We wanted to shake it up (!) a little and create a healthier, reduced sugar, version of the high street treat that has everyone blending colours for that perfect picture... Find the recipe, here.
Unicorn Protein Toast
It's time to make eating toast for breakfast a whole lot more exciting with this rainbow-coloured protein spread. The finished product might look fancy, but it's super quick to whip up and won't have you slaving away in the kitchen all morning - certain to impress any breakfast guests!
To make 1 unicorn toast:
Toast your slice of toast whilst you mix 15 tbsp of milk (I used brown rice milk) with 1 scoop of Neat vanilla vegan protein powder, until it's smooth and spreadable.
Separate the protein spread into 4 parts and mix each section with a different natural colouring before decorating your toast in a pattern of your choice!:
- 1/3-1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp blueberry powder
- 1/4- 1/3 tsp beetroot powder
- 1/4 tsp spirulina powder
Unicorn Protein Balls
Inject some fun into your usual, on-the-go afternoon snack with these multi-coloured protein balls. Flavoured with vanilla protein and creamy nut butter and coloured using only natural powders - this is a seriously nutritious snack with a unicorn edge. Just be ready for a few strange looks from your co-workers when you whip them out at your desk!
To make 10 protein balls:
In a blender mix together:
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1/4 cup almond meal
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 2 scoops of Neat vanilla protein
- 1/4 cup of nut butter
- 1 tsp of vanilla extract
- 7 tbsp milk (I used brown rice milk)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- a pinch of salt
When the mixture has combined enough to press the balls together with your hands, separate your mixture into 4 parts. Mix each section separately with a natural colouring:
- 1/3-1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp blueberry powder
- 1/4- 1/3 tsp beetroot powder
- 1/4 tsp spirulina powder
To assemble, roll together small parts of each colour to make one ball and decorate with desiccated coconut!
