Dry January: Pub Alternatives
The pub might feel like the epicentre of the universe at times, but if you’re observing dry January (or the never-catchy, always difficult to say ‘Dryanuary’), there’s a whole wide world out there to explore!
Cinema
With more chains observing VIP style screens, complete with lazy boys and waiter service, you can catch a movie in the upmost comfort. It’s Oscar season too, which means the year’s best films are currently showing. Not only will you get a few hours of escapism, but you’ll have plenty to talk about in the office the next day.
Get Outdoors
Don’t spend your weekend in the local, get out and about and explore your neighbourhood instead. Wander the high street and discover some hidden gems, or head to the local park to reset. If you’re feeling really adventurous, head out to see somewhere new. Britain is full of beautiful country houses and National Trust properties you can explore.
Try Something New
Always wanted to paint pottery? Had an urge to learn to knit? Haven’t gotten around to that Spanish class you’ve been looking into? Now is the time to embrace the new and give it a go! Invite a friend and make it a social activity that doesn’t involve reaching for a glass.
Get a Game Going with Friends
Grab a group of friends and hire a pitch or a court at your local leisure centre or park. Football, basketball, netball, badminton, volleyball – the choice if yours! A bit of friendly competition never fails to bond a group and will leave you feeling rejuvenated. Plus, you won’t feel like you’re exercising.
Exercise Your Brain
Instead of zapping brain cells with your nightly tipple, grow them with a good puzzle or crossword. You’ll be surprised how zen you’ll feel after taking time out to focus on a brain-stretching activity.
