Movember: Spreading Awareness For Mens Health
Somehow it's already November (we can't believe it either!), which means it's that month of the year where guys are growing themselves a tash in celebration of Movember! We thought we'd give you the lowdown on why and how you should be getting involved to spread awareness for men’s health this month…
What is Movember?
The stats say that men experience worse longer-term health than women and on average die six years earlier. Prostate cancer rates are expected double in the next 15 years, testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50, and ¾ of all suicides are men. And yet despite this, men’s health is hardly being talked about…
The Movember Foundation is all about trying to change this, raising funds for ground-breaking global programmes that engage with men & make changes happen.
They have some pretty impressive aims: to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%, to have half as many men dying from prostate and testicular cancer and to have quarter fewer men dying from suicide. They plan to do this by:
- Giving men the facts
- Changing behaviours for the better
- Creating services that work for men
- Bringing the brightest minds together
- Listening to the community and advocating for men
How You Can Get Involved
Grow a mo, save a bro! Guys, simply save yourself a job and stop shaving for the month of November - making a difference is as easy as that! Whatever shape or style you choose, you can inspire donations, conversations and change.
For those who can’t or don't want to grow a tash, how about simply moving instead? Choose a challenge or distance, whether it's on your own or as part of a team, have fun and raise some funds for a good cause.
